The Angel's Share Tartan Kilt for Men combines warm whisky brown and ochre tones with burnt orange bands, deep charcoal checks and fine blue overchecks. Its Scotch whisky connection and earthy colouring make it a distinctive choice for weddings, Highland games, whisky events, festivals and formal Scottish dress.
The Angel's Share tartan was created by Scottish tartan designer Steven Patrick Sim in 2016 and is recorded in the Scottish Register of Tartans under the Fashion category. The design celebrates Scotch whisky and takes its name from the “angel's share”, the spirit lost through evaporation from an oak cask during maturation. The original design uses its colour and sett to represent elements of whisky and the maturation process.
Warm brown and ochre make up much of the ground, joined by burnt orange sections that bring a copper-like warmth to the cloth. Deep brown and charcoal checks darken the sett, with clear blue lines running vertically and horizontally across the larger blocks. Fine lighter threads appear through parts of the weave, giving definition to the checks without taking attention away from the whisky-toned browns and oranges.
The smooth front apron gives the broad brown and orange sections plenty of room to show their full shape. Evenly aligned pleats at the back keep the sett orderly and open naturally during movement, giving the kilt a comfortable, structured fit with an easy drape. A brown or charcoal tweed jacket works particularly well with these colours, with a black Argyll jacket and waistcoat giving the kilt a sharper formal finish.
