The Cairns of Finavon tartan was created for David Cairns of Finavon, Baron of Finavon. The Cairns family records trace back to at least the 14th century, marking them as an established Scottish armigerous family. Over generations, the family has maintained a close association with Clan Grant and long service within the Black Watch regiment.
The base sett draws from the Black Watch tartan, acknowledging the strong military connection and its link to the Hunting Grant pattern. The colour palette mirrors the Lindsay tartan, as the title Baron of Finavon was originally connected to the Earls of Crawford.
